MESTIZA TRANSCENDS THE EXCLUSIVITY OF FASHION WEEK 

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always dreamed of showing my own collection at New York Fashion week. The thought of seeing my designs come to life on the runway, the world’s biggest stage, was my very own storybook ending.  It was also a fantasy shared by Lou when we started Mestiza.  I would always say to her "when we have our first-ever fashion show, that’s when we’ll know we’ve made it!”  

In experiencing the absolute chaos of starting a fashion company, we ended up flouting this childhood dream. For years, we were always in the weeds of the day-to-day Mestiza doldrums and it forced us to stay focused on simply growing... slow and steady.  In doing so, we created something that was entirely ours: we made our own rules and pushed back against the glib parts of fashion that felt out of our grasp. We stopped caring about the status quo. Why am I telling you all this? Because after 6 years of dreaming and scheming, we finally let go of the fact that we felt like outsiders in this cut-throat industry, and here we are, participating in fashion week in our own unconventional way! 

When I designed this collection, there were so many unknowns. I found myself leaning into a sense optimism and renewed excitement for the future. This hope and anticipation is what lead me and my team to create. While this upcoming fashion week might not quite be the runway show you’d traditionally expect, I find myself just as enchanted with this innovative way of sharing Mestiza with you all.  

I hate to play favorites when it comes to my designs, but my most treasured piece this season is the Odette Midi (launching this Wednesday). I’ve always loved dresses that are transitional and can be worn multiple ways. The Odette can be worn on and off the shoulder respectively, and I personally can’t wait to rock this dress because, in my opinion, it transcends all seasons. Its chic convertible sleeves transition from fall into winter, spring then summer.  

I couldn’t be more thrilled for you all to experience our “runway” this season. The team has been prepping for months to get this week of launches ready, and we truly hope that you fall in love with these dresses just as much as we have.
