The MNY Spotlight

Meet Eva Amurri: Mom, Actress, Writer, and Entrepreneur

Introduce yourself!

Hi! I’m Eva, and I’m a Mom of three and an Actress, Writer, and Entrepreneur! I started my Lifestyle and Motherhood brand “Happily Eva After” in 2015, and share my perspective on food, style, parenting, crafting, and travel via my blog, youtube, and social media channels. I grew up in NYC and I now live in Connecticut where I am raising my daughter and two sons. I recently got engaged, and I’m so excited to be planning my wedding to my wonderful fiancé, Ian.

What first inspired you to create Happily Eva After?

I had been acting for fifteen years and I was feeling extremely unfulfilled and frustrated with the politics and pitfalls of the industry. After welcoming my daughter, I realized that I needed to rethink my career. I started Happily Eva After blog as a way to explore all of my interests more deeply and to share my authentic experience in a world that felt full of the “perfect little squares” of social media portrayal at the time. I really felt and still feel that true joy can be found in all the moments of a full life, both good and bad– and I wanted to merge the idea of the traditional lifestyle blog with my new role as a Mom.

You created a line of home, apparel, and accessories for Happily Eva After that embodies your unique aesthetic and style. What has been the most fulfilling aspect of creating this collection?

I wanted to find a natural way to continue the ethos and aesthetic of the brand into a line that people could enjoy in their homes. Size inclusivity was really important to me, and we launched with a size range of XS-3X.  I have absolutely loved watching the community embrace it! It makes me feel really proud!

Growing up in NYC to two parents in the entertainment industry, how did your early exposure to Hollywood shape your worldview and perspective?

I’m so grateful for the perspective that my parents’ careers provided me, both within the industry and outside of that. Not only was I able to really look to a great model of working Motherhood (which has helped me immeasurably with my own family)– but I was also able to navigate my own career much better having their guidance! We also traveled Internationally so much during my childhood, which was endlessly inspiring and shaped me into who I am today. I’m very grateful.

You have three adorable kids! What are some lessons that you hope to pass down to them?

I absolutely love being a Mom. It’s most important to me that my kids grow into kind-hearted, hard working, and self-sufficient people who find something they absolutely love in this life. If they’re happy, I’m happy!

I always say about kids that you can hope to pass down values, but unless you’re actually living them yourself, your kids won’t ever learn. I try to be the best version of myself every day for them.  Sometimes I fall short, and that’s a good lesson, too!

If you had to star in one of your mothers’ iconic roles, which would it be and why?

Ha! I wouldn’t say yes to this. Nobody can play those roles but her :)

You’ve acted in some awesome hit shows! Do you have any plans to work on acting projects in the near future?

When I stopped acting 8 years ago, my perspective was always that it would be fun to do it again one day, but second to everything else I have going on. These days I’m so busy that it’s hard to fit the acting in again! That said, I’d love to find a way to do a guest role on a TV show or a supporting role in a movie that wouldn’t take me away for too long. We’ll see!

Let’s play a game of would you rather:

Win an Oscar for Best Picture, or an Emmy for Best Drama?

Probably an Emmy, I think TV is more interesting than film these days!

Act in a movie alongside your favorite actor/actress, or have a playdate with your kids’ favorite superhero/celebrity idol?

Definitely a playdate with Bluey the Australian dog. LOL.

Get dressed up in Mestiza for a red carpet, or hang in with the fam?
As my manager knows, it takes a lot to get me out of the house these days. Hang with the fam all the way!

What draws you to the Mestiza brand?

I’m always drawn to classic silhouettes and flattering shapes in great colors and patterns. I love how elegant and effortless the Mestiza pieces are!

How does wearing your Mestiza piece make you feel?

I love my red dress because it makes me feel so ladylike, but the color is exciting and it’s easy to dress up or down.
