The MNY Spotlight

Introducing our limited edition collaboration with Dudley Stephens

We collaborated with the female-founded and operated brand, Dudley Stephens, to create a limited-edition collection featuring two printed fleece styles: The Park Slope and Sheffield Pullover.

We are thrilled to combine Mestiza's iconic chinoiserie print with Dudley Stephen's cult-favorite sustainable fleeces, to create pieces that elevate your everyday. Our original chinoiserie print has been a staple on our dresses and gowns season after season, so why not make a “regular” day feel special, and wear it as a Dudley Stephens top? With our collaboration launching January 31st, now you can.

To celebrate our brand partnership, we sat down with Dudley Stephen's Co-Founders, Lauren Stephens and Kaki McGrath to chat more about this exciting collaboration.

Q&A with Lauren Stephens & Kaki McGrath of Dudley Stephens

Lauren Stephens and Kaki McGrath Dudley Stephens
Mestiza New York x Dudley Stephens just launched! Why are you excited to collaborate with Mestiza New York?

Lauren & Kaki: We were first introduced to Mestiza through influencer, Stacie Flinner. Lauren purchased her first Mestiza dress for a wedding in Harbour Island and it was the perfect dress for the occasion. It was a beautiful embroidered halter dress with a tassel tie, in gorgeous blues, perfectly matching the setting of Harbour Island! We love that Mestiza shares our ethos in being a female-founded, conscious producer of garments that are meant to be cherished, and that instantly make you feel special for whatever occasion is on the horizon.

Why is this collaboration special to you?

Lauren & Kaki: This is the very first time we have collaborated with another brand in using a print on our recycled Vello fleece. We are so excited for this exclusive, special print! It is an honor to have collaborated with such a strong and talented team at Mestiza, we were blown away by their ease in working together and how well our teams instantly clicked. It’s been a special collaboration from start to finish: it is so great when not only the product turns out beautifully, but the process to get there was seamless, smooth and also very inspiring! We love collaborating with like-minded brands because we all learn so much from each other.

What sets the Dudley Stephens apart from the competition? What makes a Dudley Stephens fleece special?

Lauren & Kaki: There is nothing compared to how you feel when you discover Dudley Stephens, starting with our signature stand-up turtlenecks. Our polished closet staples elevate any look, whether heading to a meeting, lunch with friends, on a walk or to the gym. We also use all recycled materials in our production and have repurposed over 6M plastic bottles to date!

Lauren Stephens was featured as a Mestiza Tastemaker in 2022. Read the feature here!

Let’s play a game of this or that…

Après-ski or hitting the slopes?

Lauren & Kaki: Aprés all the way!

How do you style your Mestiza New York x Dudley Stephens piece: work-out pants or jeans?

Lauren: We have a ski trip planned in February, and I plan to wear the Mestiza x Dudley Stephens Sheffield Pullover with my black ski pants, Moon Boots and ski jacket! The elegant print is so perfect to dress up any ski or athletic look, it is such a chic touch to your standard sporty look.

Kaki: I can’t wait to pair my Mestiza x Dudley Stephens Park Slope with brown suede leggings from Tuckernuck, I love how the bright blue looks with a dark neutral for an everyday office look.

Which chinoiserie style from Mestiza are you choosing: the Georgiana Gown or Stephanie Bow Dress?

Lauren: The Stephanie Bow Dress, I am eyeing this for a wedding we are attending this spring in Italy.

Kaki: The Georgiana Gown, my wedding dress was strapless and it reminds me of a similar silhouette, perfect for black tie spring charity events.

Q&A with Alessandra Perez-Rubio Loverde & Louisa Rechter Takacs of Mestiza New York

What first inspired this collaboration?
Louisa: I discovered Dudley Stephens on Instagram years ago! I was immediately drawn to their Park Slope Pullover for its cropped fit and mock turtleneck, reminiscent of a more casual Holly Golightly ensemble. First I bought the camel color, then a yellow, next a red…needless to say, I was hooked! As we accumulated Dudley Stephens merchandise, we were flattered to discover that this mother-daughter trio was building their Mestiza wardrobe as well! That’s when a lightbulb went off, and we thought why not put one of our iconic Mestiza prints on a Dudley Stephens Park Slope? We loved the idea of elevating your every day  and showing off your signature style whether its to the gym, on the slopes or socializing.

Tell us more about why you chose the blue & white chinoiserie print! Why was this print perfect for this collab?
Alessandra: The blue and white chinoiserie has been a staple Mestiza print for years. There is something so romantic and nostalgic about the floral, always conjuring up a dreamy destination, but always on a beautiful cocktail dress or gown during the spring and summer months. We craved to wear this print all year round! Enter Dudley Stephens. This collaboration gave us the opportunity to solve that problem and offer our print on sweaters that can be worn with leggings, ski pants, or perhaps over your favorite slip dress.

What was your favorite part about collaborating with Dudley Stephens? Why is this partnership special?

At first, it was our brand’s like-minded values: both brands are female-founded with a focus on delivering timeless, sustainable style. But after getting to know the co-founders, our favorite part was definitely having fun with the finished product on set and really seeing how this co-branded design can play a big part in our customer’s lives.

Let’s play a game of this or that…

Tennis court or shooting hoops?
Louisa: Tennis court for the skirt, hoops for the fun!
Alessandra: I’m equally inadequate in both!

How do you style your Mestiza New York x Dudley Stephens piece: Sampaguita earrings or cozy in pajamas?
Louisa: both!
Alessandra: Pajamas!

Which Dudley Stephens style are you choosing: the Park Slope or Sheffield Pullover?
Louisa: Sheffield. I already own a ton of Park Slopes!

Alessandra: Park slope!
