The MNY Spotlight

Madeline Yanni, Fashion PR girl turned Full-Time Blogger

This Tastemaker Tuesday we're featuring Madeline Yanni, a Manhattan based influencer and author of fashion and lifestyle blog Macarons & Madelines (and lover of French pastries!). She brought some major sunshine to a foggy day in the city in our Liza Crepe jumpsuit.
Keep reading to learn how Madeline found her niche in the fashion industry, her biggest style icon, and why she chooses Mestiza for couture without the price tag.

 Tell us about yourself!
Hi, I’m Madeline! I am the founder and writer for the blog Macarons & Madelines.  I am a former Fashion PR girl turned full-time blogger, and I can honestly say it was the best decision I've ever made. I've found I really value having autonomy in my work, and blogging truly gives me that privilege.

What inspired you to start blogging?
When I first moved to New York City, I interned at the fashion news website, StyleCaster.  During this time, I was assisting my boss on numerous blogger photoshoots and editorials. We would conduct interviews and collaborate on sponsored style-offs.  After seeing how much influence these young entrepreneurs had in the industry, it got me thinking, I could do this.  Of course, I was broke at the time because it was an unpaid internship, so I vowed to start a blog when I got my first paying job.  Soon enough, I was hired by the fashion designer, Norma Kamali. Shortly after, I launched Macarons & Madelines.

What are some of your favorite topics to cover?
Fashion is always my favorite topic.  My blog is first and foremost about fashion.  I’ve known since I was in High School that I wanted to work in the fashion industry, but I just wasn’t sure what exact role I would fill.  I attended classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Sorbonne in Paris to get a better understanding of what I wanted to focus on. Now it has become obvious that my place in the industry is as an influencer. I also enjoy highlighting the best clean beauty products, giving a sneak peek into life as a doctor's wife, and sharing my New York City experiences.
Who are some of your style icons?
My biggest style icon right now is Hailey Beiber.  I love how effortless and cool she makes everything look.

How would you describe your personal style aesthetic?
I think in the beginning it was very girly and incorporated a lot of florals. As I have become older and lived in New York City longer, it has evolved into something edgier.  I still love feminine pieces, but ultimately I think my style has become more elevated.
Do you have any tips/tricks for aspiring bloggers?
Two pieces of advice I would give to aspiring bloggers are to be consistent with your posts and make friends with everyone.

What draws you to the Mestiza brand?
I am very particular about what brands I work with since they ultimately define my brand. What drew me to Mestiza is the overall quality and design of the pieces. They are timeless, elegant, and high-end.
What are your favorite Mestiza pieces?
I would have to say that my current favorite Mestiza piece is the Liza Crepe Jumpsuit. I just love the color, fit, and feel of it. It feels especially nice to get dressed up these days. My husband has been used to tees and sweatpants the past several months, haha!
